Graduate Programs

The Herzik Lab participates in the Chemistry and Biochemistry graduate program at UCSD. Interested students should apply directly to the program. During the first year of a PhD program, students rotate through ~3 labs prior to deciding on a thesis lab.

More than 60 faculty members perform cutting-edge research in areas including molecular synthesis, structural biology, atmospheric chemistry, and materials research, just to name a few. Our faculty, who have won numerous awards and honors, include two Nobel laureates, three Howard Hughes Medical Investigators and ten members of the National Academy of Sciences. Our junior faculty have been recognized with honors such as the NSF CAREER, Beckman, Searle, Pew, Keck Scholar, Ellison Medical Foundation, and NIH Innovator awards.

Postdoctoral Fellows

Inquiries about Postdoctoral positions should be emailed directly to Mark Herzik. We don’t generally post for specific positions, so please reach out! We are interested in engaging you in a conversation about your scientific background and goals for your future career (in academia, industry, or other ventures). We strive to provide excellent training across a wide range of computational and experimental techniques.

Candidates will be encouraged to explore applying for extramural fellowships to support their research.

Undergraduates

Inquiries about undergraduate research positions should be emailed directly to Mark Herzik. Interested students should have completed the following relevant (or related) coursework at UCSD: CHEM6A/B. CHEM114A/B/C, . Laboratory experience is preferred but not required. Students will be encouraged to register for CHEM199 and apply for summer fellowships to support their research.
